Silver Soars 140%, Major Players Suddenly Raise Prices by 20%!

2026-01-16

Recently, Yageo, a leading company in the passive components industry, issued a price adjustment notice to its customers, announcing that starting February 1 of this year, prices for several mainstream resistor products—including RC0402, RC0603, RC0805, and RC1206—will be increased by approximately 15% to 20%. The company stated that this price adjustment is primarily driven by significantly rising chip component costs, coupled with widespread increases in the prices of key metal materials such as copper, aluminum, tin, and manganese, which have further elevated production costs.

According to industry insiders, in recent years, domestic passive component brands have continuously expanded their production capacity and gradually penetrated sectors like consumer electronics, intensifying market competition. However, amid broad-based increases in raw material prices, many domestic manufacturers have also successively issued notices raising prices for resistors, inductors, and other products, reflecting the cost pressures faced across the entire industry. Under the dual impact of price competition and rising costs, the supply chain is entering a new phase of adjustment.

In its notice, Yageo emphasized its commitment to maintaining long-term partnerships with customers, ensuring stable supply, reliable product quality, and providing competitive comprehensive solutions. Notably, this is not Yageo’s first price adjustment recently. Previously, the company had already raised prices for certain tantalum capacitors and ferrite beads, and its subsidiary KEMET announced a 15% price increase for thick-film resistor products in sizes ranging from 0402 to 1206, effective January 26. The new pricing will take effect on February 1, while existing contractual orders will remain at original prices.

Passive components, as fundamental building blocks of electronic circuits, encompass various types including resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Although they do not amplify signals, they play critical roles in circuits such as current limiting, voltage division, filtering, energy storage, and interference suppression. In recent years, influenced by multiple factors—including fluctuations in raw material markets, growing downstream demand, and adjustments in production capacity—prices of passive components have exhibited cyclical volatility. Particularly with the rapid advancement of cutting-edge industries like 5G communications, new energy vehicles, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence, market demand for passive components continues to rise, placing higher demands on their performance, precision, and reliability, and driving the industry toward miniaturization, high-frequency operation, and enhanced stability.

Faced with the current trend of price adjustments, procurement teams must pay closer attention to diversified supply chain strategies and long-term stable partnerships. In this context, platforms like IC Hub, which specialize in electronic component supply chain services, can offer clients stable sourcing channels and price monitoring through their extensive product resources, real-time market insights, and professional procurement support, helping enterprises optimize inventory structures and mitigate operational risks caused by price volatility.

Overall, this round of price hikes reflects the development dynamics of the passive components industry under the dual drivers of material costs and market demand. For electronics manufacturers, establishing a flexible supply chain system, diversifying supplier resources, and strengthening collaboration with specialized distribution platforms will become essential strategies to navigate market fluctuations and ensure stable production. IC Hub will continue closely monitoring industry trends to help clients achieve efficient and resilient component procurement and management in a complex market environment.
